The Student Programming Board (SPB) will be hosting a full Welcome Back Week of events when students return to the university, beginning on Monday, January 23. As an Orientation Leader, students serve as a role model and mentor to all new QU students, enhance communication, leadership, and group facilitation skills, and have an opportunity to make new friends! We are grateful to have your students at QU as they are why the entire QU faculty and staff do what we do. When your student returns for the semester break, we hope you have the opportunity to learn more about what they experienced and learned from their coursework. Remind your student that the winter sports teams are also a blast to watch, and that they can acquire free tickets through a sign-up process! with free shakes, giveaways and plenty of activities for all students. Special note, the CXO student advisory boards will be offering a Rec and Dark program in collaboration with the Center and some of our Division I athletic teams on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 7-11 p.m. The new demonstration kitchen will be ready with a series of wellness-related programs as well. The Recreation and Wellness Center will be fully open with weekly programming - and with the Shake Smart operation run by students, for students. Some quick updates (in addition to the others in the newsletter): We have received approval from the town of Hamden to begin construction of the three new buildings on campus! When your student returns in January, the campus will look different with the South Lot off-line, so we are working on a new bus stop for students. I appreciate their dedication and insights to the student experience. The group has also met with the dining leadership team, the marketing team, and other university officials to provide feedback in the continuous improvement of our services and programs. I want to give a shoutout to the Parent’s Advisory Board who helped suggest a trial bus run to the Long Island Ferry in Bridgeport this Friday. What amazing accomplishments! Additionally, students gathered for the annual Quad Lighting, and faculty and staff served around 1,500 students for the annual holiday dinner. Bobcat fans attended Division I championship caliber matches and games, and we are proud to note that women's cross country, women’s soccer, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams all won the MAAC Championships. We have offered numerous opportunities to engage students with their peers, faculty and staff. As we near the end of the finals, let's take a moment to reflect on our semester at QU.
